"Who's singing there" again in Cannes

After 40 years since the premiere of the cult film "Who sings there" at the Cannes festival, where it won the audience award, the film directed by Slobodan Šijan and produced by Centar film from Belgrade, will be shown again at this film festival, in the "Cannes classic" program in October and November, the Yugoslav Cinematheque announced.

Given that the Cannes Festival this year was not held in its traditional schedule and form due to the coronavirus pandemic, selected films (32 in total) will be screened at the Lumiere festivals in Lyon and the Rencontres Cinematographiques de Cannes.

"Cannes Classic" presents a retrospective of the most significant achievements from the history of the Cannes Film Festival. At this year's edition, 25 feature films and seven documentaries will be shown, among which is another well-known film from the period of Yugoslav cinema, "The Ninth Circle" (1960) by France Štiglica with Dušica Žegarac in the leading female role.

In the multi-award winning satirical comedy, notable roles were played by the doyens of Yugoslav acting Pavle Vujisić, Aleksandar Berček, Danilo Bata Stojković, Mića Tomić, Dragan Nikolić, Neda Arnerić, Slavko Štimac, Taško Načić and Borislav Stjepanović. The film was digitally restored in the digitization and digital restoration department of the Yugoslav Cinematheque, as part of the "VIP Cinematheque" project, which has been implemented since 2017.
