The film "The Fourteenth Day", directed by Zdravko Velimirović and screenwriter Borislav Pekić, which the Montenegrin Cinematheque restored together with the Yugoslav Cinematheque, was included in the program of the world's most important film festival - the 74th Cannes International Film Festival, the Montenegrin Cinematheque announced today.
In the "Cannes Classics" selection, in addition to the film "The Fourteenth Day", the classics of European and world cinema will be shown: "Black Orpheus" by Marcel Camus (Palme d'Or 1959), "The Double Life of Veronica" by Krzysztof Kieszlowski, "The War is Over" by Allen René, "Letter from an Unknown Woman" by Max Ofils, "Mullholland Drive" by David Lynch and others. Films in which they participated or whose authors will be presented, among others: Irene Jacob, Tilda Swinton, David Lynch, Marta Mesaros," the announcement states. .
The Montenegrin Cinematheque added that, due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the film festival in Cannes will be held in a non-standard time frame, from July 6 to 17, and that this year's jury will be chaired by the American director and screenwriter Spike Lee.
"In the film "The Fourteenth Day", which was produced by Lovćen Film in 1960, we follow four prisoners who, due to good behavior, get two weeks of freedom. The situations in their lives get complicated as the day of their return to prison approaches, the day fourteenth. The main roles are played by: Nikola Popović, Karlo Bulić, Slobodan Cica Perović, Dušan Janićijević, Olga Spiridonović, Mira Stupica," the announcement concludes.
