Russian actress Julia Peresild and film director Klim Shipenko, they finished filming that lasted 12 days on the International Space Station, and last week they returned to Earth, where they immediately filmed additional scenes that are part of the plot of the film they are currently working on.
The cameras were also on during their landing, so Peresild, who plays a surgeon who goes into space to help a very sick astronaut, was immediately moved from the Soyuz spacecraft to a nearby set, where she acted out what had just happened - her return from of the universe, writes CBS News.
He piloted the Soyuz spacecraft on its return to Earth Oleg Novitsky, who spent 191 days in space, and who played a patient on the International Space Station for the purposes of the film "Challenge". He continued the role after landing on Earth, so he patiently repeated the scene several times until the director was satisfied.
"The crew of the spacecraft was alert the entire time during the journey to Earth and they were not in the slightest danger," announced NASA.
And indeed, after returning from space, all three seemed to be in good spirits and happily recounted their experiences with the welcoming committee, before undergoing the mandatory medical examination so that they could board the plane that would take them back to Moscow, where will spend ten days in a special facility for recovery.
Peresild and Klim Shipenko were launched into space on October 5, and on the way to the International Space Station the spacecraft was piloted by an astronaut Anton Shkaplerov.
They were met at the station by Novitski and Pyotr Dubrov from Russia, Shane Kimbrough, Megan McArthur i Mark Vand Hei, members of NASA, Thomas Pesket from the European Space Agency and a Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshida.
Novitski, Shkaplerov and Dubrov helped during the filming of the scenes in space, because the budget for possibly sending more than two amateurs into space would be too large.
The plot of the film "Challenge" is still not fully known, but it is known that the character of the actress Peresild arrives in space in order to operate on an astronaut who, due to his health condition, would otherwise not be able to withstand the return to Earth.
The space agency Roscosmos is responsible for the idea and production of this film, the premiere date of which is still unknown, whose leaders hope that the production will promote the profession of astronauts and thus interest young people to study for work at the agency.
Roscosmos is shooting the film in co-production with Channel 1 and the studio "Yellow, Black and White" from Moscow.
Until now, for films whose action takes place outside the planet Earth, real shots from space were mostly used, but the actors played their parts in the studio, in front of a green screen, instead of which the background would be added by computer processing.
Special scenes in space have been filmed for several films, such as the 2002 IMAX documentary narrated by him Tom Cruise and "Apogee of Fear," an eight-minute 2012 sci-fi film shot in space by a "space tourist" Richard Garriot, otherwise the son of an astronaut.
Tom Cruise and the director Doug Liman, revealed in 2020 that they are working together on a film that will be shot in space, in collaboration with NASA.
Information appeared in the American media that Cruise could go into space at the end of this year, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Meanwhile, the United States of America was defeated in this race by Russia, which went down in history as the first country to send a man, a woman and a dog into space, and with the help of the movie "Challenge", as well as Peresild and Shipenka, it is now also the first the country that sent a cast into space.
Both the actress and the director were chosen by passing the Roscosmos round of auditions, which was announced in 2020.
Sending two civilians into space was a big challenge, so Peresild and Shipenko had to go through a series of medical examinations, and then preparations that included centrifugal and vibrating tests, training for staying in space without gravity, and parachute landing.
