The drama series "Succession" was declared the best at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, with the triumph of its actors, and "The Bear" won the award for the best comedy series.
After a four-month delay due to strikes in Hollywood, the elite of American television gathered in Los Angeles for the 75th Emmy Awards.
The televised equivalent of the Oscars is usually held in September, but the organizers arranged a meeting in January instead, believing - apparently rightly - that the strikes of actors and screenwriters will be over by then and the biggest stars will be able to walk the red carpet again, writes Hina.
HBO's production "Succession", a dark and stark chronicle of the internal strife of a wealthy dysfunctional family at the head of a large media empire, had 27 nominations and ended up with a total of six Emmy Awards, as many as "The Bear".
The series "Succession" ended last year after four seasons. That series, which took home the Emmys in both 2020 and 2022, managed to beat "The Last of Us" and "The White Lotus."
She also took home the awards for best lead actor and actress in a drama series – they went to Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook. And the award for the best male supporting role went to the series "Succession", which was won by the British actor Matthew Macfadyen.
As many as three actors from that series – Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong – were nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
The Emmy for Best Supporting Actress went to Jennifer Coolidge for the satire "The White Lotus."
While "Succession" dominated the drama categories, "The Bear" won six awards in the comedy category and Netflix's "Beef" dominated the short series category.
"The Bear" - in addition to winning the award for the best comedy series - also received three acting awards: Jeremy Allen White received the Emmy for the best lead actor, and Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bahrah for the best supporting actress and the best supporting actor.
Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Quinta Brunson ("Abbott Elementary").
Sir Elton John received his first Emmy Award, making him an "EGOT" - an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner.
