One of the candidates for the role of James Bond Dan Stevens shares a surprising answer when asked if he would be interested in the role of agent 007. After Daniel Craig left the franchise with the explosive ending of "No Time To Die", rumors about who could succeed him they don't let up. And while Aaron Taylor-Johnson has become the unofficial favorite, Stevens, known for his roles in "The Guest" and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," has long been considered a contender.
As official news about a confirmed 26th Bond film remains scarce, Stevens addressed reports that have mentioned him as a possible candidate during a recent interview with Backstage. The actor revealed that there is another role in the 007 franchise that actually interests him more.
"I don't really know why that role has become the benchmark of absolute success, you know? I love those movies, I've loved them over the years. Would I be a great Bond? Sure, but I think I'd rather be a villain. But that's not why I do what I do I do. I think you can notice certain people who have made certain career decisions that go in that direction, like, 'Hey, what do you think of this? I look pretty good in a tuxedo, don't I?'" It's weird how it became a phenomenon, that it has become a thing that must be achieved, because there is so much else you can do," said the famous actor.
The last film in Daniel Craig's Bond era was released in 2021, and concrete news about the franchise's future has been hard to come by since then.
Producer Barbara Broccoli and Eon Productions haven't explicitly revealed who they're considering for the next Bond, but several actors quickly stood out, with Taylor-Johnson becoming the front-runner after it was revealed last year that he actually met with Broccoli to discuss the role.
Both Broccoli and Taylor-Johnson have remained tight-lipped on the matter, but last week some media reported that Taylor-Johnson had actually received an offer to play Bond and had not yet accepted it. Aeon declined to comment on the claims, but Deadline later reported that a source at the company did not specifically deny the claim that Taylor-Johnson had been offered the role. Nothing is certain until it is officially announced, but it is possible that the next 007 agent has already been found.
