Drew Barrymore was only 11 months old when she got her first job in advertising. When she was 7 years old, she won the hearts of the audience as Gertie in the movie "ET". After that, she acted in dozens of films, and she also produced some.
It's the biography you'd expect from the heiress of one of Hollywood's most famous families — her father, grandfather, great-grandparents, and aunt and uncle were all actors.
But when she looked back on her career in an interview with "Peoples" magazine, she wasn't the proudest of any movie or series.
"I think for me, giving up drinking is one of the most honorable things I can do as Barrymore, because we were all such hedonists," the 49-year-old said.
Her grandfather John Barrymore, who was a famous actor in the 20s and 30s, died of an excessive use of alcohol. Her aunt Diana admitted to abusing drugs and alcohol in her biography "Too Much, Too Fast". And her father, John Drew Barrymore, had a history of alcoholism.
"Don't look at me as the pillar of health and wellness that made it all work. It's like, you know what? This didn't work for our family, and I'm going to stop it. I'm going to be the one to break that link in the chain and maybe my kids will and their children will be better because of it," said the actress.
"We have to fight against the genetic mistakes that our families bring us," added the Hollywood star.
Barrymore previously revealed that she started drinking more during a difficult period after her divorce. After overcoming addiction as a teenager, she recognized the warning signs.
"After the life I had planned for my children fell through — I almost think it was harder than the things I went through as a child. It felt a lot more real, because it wasn't just about me, it was about these kids that I care so much about marila. Then I probably worried so much that I only gave to them and didn't take care of myself. It was a painful and unhappy journey through the fire and back to life," the actress recalled.
Spent some time in therapy and stopped drinking. Barrymore says her children made her come to her senses. After that, she devoted herself to the development of the talk show "The Drew Barrymore Show", and the fifth season of the show was ordered in January. "Regardless of everything I've been through in my personal life, I've never brought it to work. I've never messed up a job. I never give up. I don't come unprepared. I give my best at work. I'm an unfailing professional with an indomitable work ethic." the actress pointed out.
