Famous actor Viggo Mortensen revealed that he used the iconic sword Anduril that belonged to Aragorn, who he portrayed in the movie "The Lord of the Rings", in his latest work "The Dead Don't Hurt".
Mortensen wrote and directed this western set in the 19th century, in which he plays a Danish immigrant who is separated from the woman he is in love with by civil war.
The actor said he asked "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson for permission to use the said sword in a fantasy sequence in the film.
"We had everything for this knight sequence. We found a big, lively horse, a perfect saddle and a kind of medieval blanket, we had a costume for the knight... Everything was perfect and then I said we need a sword. It was some good ones, but I thought they could use Aragorn's sword, because it's really good. But I knew I had to ask permission, because I was convinced that someone would notice, even though it's only visible for a few seconds and it's not particularly important. neither for the stage nor for the film, it's something you only see in passing or not," said the actor in an interview with GQ magazine.
"I asked Peter and he said it was okay, but to ask the film company. I contacted them and they were fine with it. They understood that it wasn't important, that it wouldn't attract much attention... It was a last-minute decision ", he added.
Jackson is returning to Middle-earth, as he will produce the new film in the franchise, "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," due out in 2026. Will Mortensen return to the role of Aragorn? The actor has nothing against it, if the story makes sense.
"I don't know what the story is, I haven't heard yet, maybe I will soon. I loved playing Aragorn, I learned a lot and I enjoyed it. I would do it if it was right, given my age now and everything. If was right for the character, otherwise it would be funny," explained the actor.
