American actor Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark “Maxtimy” Sloan on the long-running series “Intro to Anatomy,” revealed in an interview with the Armchair Expert podcast that his character died not because he quit his job, but because the producers of the television show fired him .
His hero, who was known by the nickname Mextimy, died in the ninth season after a plane crash, and that episode was broadcast in 2012.
“I didn't leave. I think they let me go," he said, adding that, although he had problems with addiction at the time, that was not the reason for his dismissal, "although it didn't help him stay in the series either."
“They didn't let me go because of that, even though it didn't help. Like all actors who spend a long time on one show, I started to become too expensive to produce. And the production knows what it has to do - as long as they had their Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) series will do well", concluded this 51-year-old actor.
“I wasn't the same guy they hired. That's why I understand why they fired me," he added, and then referred to his relationship with the author of the series, Shondom Rimes.
“She's really great. She protected us all. But I think I got fired anyway. It wasn't ceremonial, in the sense that they told me - you're fired, but they just told me that I'm not coming back to the set," Dane recalled.
In July 2011, before the start of the eighth season of "Introduction to Anatomy", his spokesperson told the media that Dane is in a rehabilitation center, where he is being treated for "addiction to drugs he started taking due to a sports injury".
In the Armchair Expert podcast, the actor reflected on those days and his battle with addiction.
"If you take into consideration the entire eighth season of the series, I was more in trouble than I was clean. And that's when things took a turn for the worse for me," the actor is honest.
After finishing filming the hospital drama series, Dane was cast in The Last Ship and then in the HBO series Euphoria.
The film Bad Boys: Ride or Die is currently in theaters, in which he joined the main characters played by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Meanwhile, in April, ABC television announced the filming of the 21st season of the series "Introduction to Anatomy", the first episode of which was broadcast in 2005. A large number of characters passed through Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital, and Meredith Gray, portrayed by Ellen Pompeo, stayed the longest, and was the backbone of the plot until the 19th season.
