Best known for her role as Gabriela Solis in the hit series "Desperate Housewives", Eva Longoria now stars in the comedy thriller "Land of Women". Recently, she has been mostly involved in directing work, so this is her first leading role in a TV series after almost ten years. She told the Guardian that it took something special to drag her back in front of the camera.
"A lot of things on TV are depressing. It's always the end of the world or some dystopian future where the government has collapsed and it's somehow too close to reality. I wanted escapism and entertainment. 'Land of Women' is an adaptation of Sandra Barned's great novel about three generations of women in "No one had to convince me to film there. It's important to tell stories about women. The fact that many Latin Americans are working on this project also makes me proud," she explained.
Longoria plays Gala, a wine expert, which is an ideal role for her.
"I've always said that if I wasn't an actress, I'd be a sommelier. I'm obsessed with vines, wine barrels, production techniques. I'm especially fascinated by old world wines. I'm very similar to Gala, we're both wine snobs," said the actress.
The actress also referred to playing in the "Desperate Housewives" series, saying that it was an experience that changed her life.
"It was such a phenomenon. When the series came out, the first place I went outside America was London. I arrived at the hotel and there was a crowd of people in front. I asked the driver what it was about, if there was any famous person like Bono or Madonna. He told me that these people came to China and they were screaming my name. I didn't know that the show was so popular around the world "After the first screening, people continue to discover it. Thematically, it is timeless. The ideas it deals with - family, friendship, divorce, love - are universal," said the actress.
