Game of Thrones creator and author George RR Martin revealed in a new blog post that he will soon be writing about "everything that went wrong" with HBO's spinoff House of Dragons. The second season of the series ended earlier this month.
Over the years, Martin has used his personal blog to keep fans updated on the production of "Dragon House," his long-delayed book, "The Winds of Winter," and to share various other thoughts with them. However, this is the first time he has criticized the series based on his book "Fire and Blood".
"I'm not looking forward to the other posts I have to write about everything that went wrong with 'House of the Dragon'… but I have to do it and I will. Not today, though. Today is the day of Zozobra, when we turn away from the darkness," he wrote Martin said in a blog post Friday about Santa Fe's Burning Zozobra festival and his summer travels.
"It hasn't been a good year for anyone, with war everywhere and fascism on the rise... and on a personal level, it's been a pretty awful year for me too, full of stress, anger, conflict and defeat. I have to talk about some of those things, and I want, I want...", wrote the author among other things.
The criticism of HBO may surprise some, given that Martin, who is also the executive producer of "Dragon House", praised the fourth episode in the middle of the second season for its spectacular dragon fight.
“Has there ever been a dragon fight that compares to this one?” Martin asked his readers at the time.
However, in the same post, Martin pointed out that the wrong coat of arms for House Targaryen was used in the said episode. The correct coat of arms shows a two-legged dragon, while the series shows a four-legged dragon.
Some fans were disappointed with the finale of the second season, which ended with a similar "cliffhanger" as the first, foreshadowing a general war between the "green" and the "black". The second season was also reduced to eight episodes, after the first which had 10 episodes, leaving many fans wanting more.
