Elizabeth Olsen is open to returning to the role of Vanda Maksimova, aka the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but only if there is a way to use the character in the right way.
We haven't seen the actress in a Marvel movie since 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda went full-on villainous and her character ended up under the rubble of a building. Her fate remains unknown, and neither Olsen nor Marvel have yet announced when the Scarlet Witch will reappear.
"It's a character that I like to come back to when there's a good way to use her, and I think I was lucky that I was used well in the beginning. I think at one point the people at Marvel didn't know what to do with me... If there's a good way to use Vanda, I'm always happy to come back," Olsen said in a recent interview with FM104.
In interviews after the release of the movie "Doctor Strange", Olsen did not hide that she was surprised that the Marvel character Wanda was taken in such a negative direction. The Emmy-nominated actress admitted that she had a hard time transitioning from "WandaVision," where the Scarlet Witch became a more vulnerable and fully developed character, to "Multiverse of Madness," where she became a full-on villain.
"At first I was nervous and confused, because I hadn't finished 'WandaVision' yet, but we were almost there. And I thought, 'God, how am I going to tie this all together?' But we got there; I got there. And it became an incredible opportunity for people to love this woman in 'WandaVision,' and then, you know, manipulate them in this movie, where they're on her side, and then themselves. find themselves in a quandary," Olsen told Variety after the film's release.
Olsen also frankly admitted in an earlier interview that she does not feel nostalgic for the days when she played the Scarlet Witch.
"It's been almost 10 years since I played it. And I loved it. I think the reason I don't call Kevin Feige every day with new ideas is because I'm really proud of what we've accomplished. I think 'WandaVision' was a really surprising opportunity . If someone told me I was fired from the Marvel movies, I would be proud of what we did. And now I'm just trying to focus on other movies and characters so that Marvel becomes less important in my work," she said at the time.
Although it is not yet known whether the Scarlet Witch will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fajgi himself has expressed interest in her return to the screen.
"There's really so much more we can explore. We still haven't touched on many of her key storylines from the comics. I'd work with Lizzy for another 100 years if I could. Anything is possible in the multiverse! We'll see," the Marvel Studios president told Variety.
