French actor and director Nikola Bedo was sentenced today to one year in prison, six months of which will be suspended for sexual assaults on two women in 2023.
Bedo (44), the son of humorist Gij Bedo, was not present in the courtroom, he was acquitted of other acts of sexual abuse committed in 2018, due to a lack of evidence.
The actor's lawyer said that an appeal will be filed against the verdict immediately.
The court ordered the convict to serve part of his six-month prison sentence at home, with electronic monitoring.
Bedo will also have to undergo psychological and addiction treatment. He is forbidden to have contact with the victims and will be registered in the main police register as a perpetrator of sexual and violent crimes.
During the hearing, the convict denied the sexual assault, but admitted to problems with alcohol and "difficult communication" when drunk.
"I don't remember anything, it's a blackout," Bedo said on several occasions, denying he had acted inappropriately.
Bedo (44) was found guilty of crimes that took place in 2023. A woman accused the actor that on the night between June 1 and 2, 2023, he approached her in a nightclub and reached down the front of her pants.
Another woman, a waitress in a Paris bar, told the court that Nikola Bedo, drunk, grabbed her by the waist and kissed her on the neck on the night between May 11 and 12, 2023.
Bedo, an artist and comedian who represents political incorrectness, is the author of four films, three of which were presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
The achievement of "La Belle Epoque" from 2019, is his most notable feature film, which had 1,2 million viewers in cinemas.
