Idris Elba has been cast in the lead role in a new action thriller called "Hammer Down".
The film is directed by Simon Heath, a former assistant to James Gunn, who also wrote the screenplay based on his short film. Heath previously co-produced "Suicide Squad" and executive produced "Guardians of the Galaxy," Deadline reports.
According to the synopsis, Idris Elba portrays the character of Mac, "the best at what he does" who drives a truck across the country with the rule "no questions asked about the goods he's transporting". When he takes his daughter on a job, they are followed and attacked by tireless criminals who are ready to do anything to get hold of the shipment that Mack is transporting.
"With ruthless killers chasing them and the police on their trail, Mack and his daughter must work together to prevent the cargo from falling into the wrong hands and survive another day," the synopsis reads.
Meanwhile, Elba recently announced a new project for the BBC. The actor will direct a documentary about the problem of carrying knives in the UK.
The documentary, currently titled "Idris Elba: The Year of Knives," will follow the actor known for his role in the "Luther" series as he explores "the reality of the knife-carrying problem and considers potential solutions to this crisis."
"Many people dismiss the problem of knife-carrying as something that doesn't affect them, thinking it's an urban gang problem - but that couldn't be further from the truth. White, middle-class and rural areas are also affected, the perpetrators are getting younger and the fear "I hope our film will help change these stereotypes and encourage everyone to engage with one of the biggest issues of our time. It's been a tough year for me - but I'm optimistic," Elba said of the documentary.
