Toy company Mattel, best known for the Barbie doll, said it was taking "immediate action" after it mistakenly printed the address of a pornographic website on the packaging of dolls from the upcoming film Wicked.
Over the weekend, individuals began sharing photos of the doll's packaging online, which showed a link to wicked.com printed on it instead of wickedmovie.com. That address was found on the boxes for the dolls Glinda and Elfable, the main characters from "Wicked", who are played by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the film adaptation, reports the Guardian.
Mattel issued a statement on Sunday regarding the error.
"Mattel has been notified of a typographical error on the packaging of the 'Wicked' doll collection, sold primarily in the US, that should have directed consumers to the official WickedMovie.com site," the statement said.
"We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to correct it. We advise parents that the incorrect website address is not suitable for children. Consumers who already own the product are advised to discard the product packaging or hide the link, and may contact Matela customer service for further information," it added.
The dolls are now listed as "currently unavailable" on the US version of the Amazon site, while the Hollywood Reporter said the dolls were pulled from sale at Target on Sunday afternoon.
"Wicked," the adaptation of the wildly successful musical, will hit theaters around the world later this month.
