The trailer for the eighth film in the "Mission: Impossible" series has been released with a new title suggesting that this could be the last mission for Tom Cruise.
Set to be released next summer, "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" was originally planned as the second part of 2023's "Revenge," titled "Revenge Part Two."
However, after the seventh film underperformed at the box office, grossing $570 million on a budget of $291 million, the strategy for the sequel was revamped. The premiere was moved to the summer of 2024, and now a new title has been announced.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the budget has ballooned to $400 million, which would make it the fourth most expensive film ever made. The paper also states that the decision to call the film a "final sequel" in the hope of attracting audiences is contrary to Cruise's hopes for the future of the series.
"Harrison Ford is a legend. I hope to go on for a long time. I have 20 years to live up to him. I hope to be doing 'Mission: Impossible' movies until I'm his age," Cruz said in a 2023 interview.
Also, there is a rumor that Paramount wants to show the film at next year's Cannes Film Festival.
Cruz is currently filming a new film by director Alejandro Injaritu ("The Returner" and "Birdman") in Great Britain. He has recently been linked to a possible sequel to the film "Days of Thunder".
Next summer also brings the premieres of "Jurassic World: Rebirth" with Scarlett Johansson, James Gunn's new take on Superman, and live-action versions of "Lilo and Stitch" and "How to Train Your Dragon."
