Austin Butler will play Patrick Bateman in director Luke Guadagnino's new film based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel "American Psycho."
According to Variety, the star of the movie "Elvis" still got the main role in this production, after there were rumors that Jacob Ilordi, best known to the audience from the series "Euphoria", will get the role.
Guadagnino, who rose to fame with the films "Call Me by Your Name" and "The Challengers", will not remake Mary Haron's acclaimed adaptation from 2000, but will have a new interpretation. The screenplay was written by Scott Z. Burns.
The book follows a narcissistic investment banker who is also a serial killer of women. The role was previously played by Christian Bale, and more recently by Matt Smith in a stage musical.
Guadagnino is currently promoting his adaptation of the William S. Burroughs novel "Queer" starring Daniel Craig, and his thriller "After the Hunt" starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield will be released next year.
Earlier this month, "The Challengers" received four Golden Globe nominations.
Butler was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the 2022 Baz Luhrmann biopic Elvis.
