Keanu Reeves recently told CBS News that he's not sure his body can handle another "John Wick" movie. This action superstar starred in four John Wick films, which collectively grossed more than a billion dollars.
Reeves will reprise her role in the upcoming "Ballerina" spinoff, due out next year. However, when it comes to a potential "John Wick 5," it could all depend on the state of his knees.
"Never say never. My knees are saying right now: I can't take another 'John Wick'. My heart would like to, but I'm not sure my knees can," said the famous actor.
"John Wick: Chapter 4" ended with the presumed death of John Wick after engaging in a duel to free himself from the High Table. In the third round of the duel, John is shot and appears to be dying on the steps of the basilica while watching a vision of his late wife Helen. The film then cuts to a scene where Winston (Ian McShane) and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) visit John's gravestone.
The film's ambiguous ending led many fans to question whether Reeves would return for the fifth film. In an interview with Empire magazine last year, director Chad Stahelski revealed that a different version of the ending was shot and tested. In that version, there was no doubt that John Wick survived the events of the duel.
"We had a different ending. At the end of the film, you saw John Wick. It was very clear that he was alive. The audience we showed that version to absolutely preferred the unclear ending," said Stahelski.
That ending contradicted Reeves' original wish that John Wick definitely die. Franchise producer Basil Ivanyuk told Collider that Reeves begged the film's crew to kill off his character at the end of the fourth installment. This is not surprising, given that Reeves is physically exhausted after each film in the series, making it difficult for him to return in the sequels. However, the producers again decided not to fully listen to their star.
