A new biopic of the British musician Robbie Williams "Better Man" did not meet expectations because it is not doing well in American cinemas. In this production as well, the singer is portrayed as a CGI chimpanzee, and the story follows his life and career - from childhood to fame with the boy band Take That.
Better Man premiered in the UK on December 26th, while it was released in the US on January 10th. As reported by Variety, the film only made $580.000 on its first day, which is considered a significant disappointment.
For the film he directed Michael Gracie the budget was $110 million. In a three-star review, NME wrote that "Better Man" begins as a John Lewis ad, skimming Williams' career, but that the move to portray the singer as a chimpanzee was very brave.
The film also features a new song, "Forbidden Road," which was recently disqualified from the Oscars for Best Original Song because it contains "material from an existing song" - "I Got A Name." Jim Croce.
