Conan O'Brien will host the 97th Academy Awards, which will take place on March 2, 2025.
This information was confirmed by the Academy's executive director, Bill Kramer, and the Academy's president, Janet Young, writes the Guardian, reported Danas.
"Conan is the ideal person for this role thanks to his brilliant humor, love of film and experience in hosting TV programs. His ability to connect with audiences will help us create an unforgettable celebration of the film industry and pay tribute to the extraordinary films and creators of this year," Kramer and Young said in a statement.
O'Brien himself reacted to the news, saying: "America demanded it and now it's happening. And, in other news, I'm hosting the Oscars," reports The Guardian.
In July, it was announced that Jimmy Kimmel had decided not to host this year's awards show, even though he had previously hosted four times.
Conan O'Brien (born April 18, 1963) is an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. He is best known for hosting the talk show "Conan," which ran from 2010 to 2021. Before becoming a host, O'Brien worked as a writer on the popular show "Saturday Night Live."
He was also a screenwriter for the legendary animated series "The Simpsons" from 1991 to 1993, where he wrote some of the most famous episodes.
O'Brien became host of "Late Night" in 1993, after David Letterman retired.
Although initially criticized, the show eventually became extremely popular, and O'Brien became the longest-running late-night talk show host in the United States, with 22 years of service.
O'Brien's personal life is also interesting. On "The Simpsons," he met actress Lisa Kudrow, who encouraged him to pursue acting and put writing on the back burner. Although they fell in love, their romance didn't last.
In 2020, O'Brien met Elizabeth Powell, whom he married in 2022. They have two children – a son and a daughter.
