Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have joined the production of a new film, based on an original idea by Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

The Hawaii-set crime thriller, which is currently being pitched to studios and streaming platforms, is already drawing industry comparisons to The Departed and Goodfellas. While no deals have been signed yet, the project's fate depends on finding a distributor, Variety reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the situation.

The script will be written by author and journalist Nick Bilton, who directed the 2021 HBO documentary, "Fake Famous."

Johnson and Blunt are already working on "The Smashing Machine," a drama produced by A24 and directed by Benny Safdie, which is considered Johnson's most serious dramatic role to date.

Scorsese and DiCaprio have been one of the most famous tandems in the film industry for years, with hits such as "Double Trouble," "The Aviator," "Gangs of New York," "The Island," "The Wolf of Wall Street" and last year's Oscar nominee for best picture, "Killers of the Flower Moon."

The duo is also working on a film adaptation of the book "The Devil in the White City," a long-running project that was picked up by 20th Century Studios last month.
