Actress Naomi Watts, who was one of director David Lynch's favorite collaborators, said he had planned to return to work before he passed away in January.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Watts revealed that she spent an afternoon in November with Lynch and Laura Dern, who starred in his films "Blue Velvet" and "Wild at Heart."
"We had a wonderful lunch at his house. I knew he wasn't well, but he was in a great mood. He wanted to get back to work. Lora and I told him, 'You can do it! You can work from a trailer.' At no point did he give the impression of a man who no longer wanted to create. I saw that his creative spirit was still alive," said the actress, known to audiences from the film "Mulholland Drive."
Lynch died after announcing in August 2024 that he had been diagnosed with emphysema, and in November he revealed that breathing problems were preventing him from working on set.
"I can barely cross the room. It's like walking with a plastic bag over your head," he said at the time.
His last major work as a director was the 2017 series "Twin Peaks: The Return," which starred both Watts and Dern.
"There's a lot I could share [about Lynch], but I want to keep it private for the sake of his family. It was a really powerful encounter that filled me with immense love and hope," the actress added.
