Martial arts classics starring Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee will be remastered with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence), reports NME magazine.

The initiative was launched by the Film Foundation of China, and the project includes films such as “Drunken Master” from 1978, “Fists Of Fury” from 1972, and Jet Li’s “Once Upon A Time in China” from 1991. In addition, it is planned to remaster about a hundred films with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

The project was announced at the 27th edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival, and as explained, AI will be used to improve the image, sound, and production quality with the desire to preserve the aesthetics and narrative of the original.

"From Bruce Lee to Jackie Chan, from 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' to 'Wolf Warrior', these films show the world the vitality and spirit of the Chinese people," said Zhang Qilin, president of the China Film Foundation.

“These are our cinematic tickets to the world,” he added.

"AI is a paintbrush, but creativity is the soul. Kung fu film classics represent China's spiritual backbone. We invite global partners to join this cultural and technological project," the Shanghai International Film Festival said.

Out of a hundred films, ten have been prioritized and will be remastered in the first phase, for which $13,9 million has been allocated.
