Australian actor Julian McMahon has died at the age of 56, the BBC reports.
His wife said the actor died on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, after being diagnosed with cancer.
"Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his job and he loved his fans. His deepest desire was to bring joy to as many lives as possible," McMahon's wife, Kelly Paniagua, said in a statement published by the news website Deadline.
McMahon played the character of Detective John Grant in the American series "Profiler".
He also starred in the hit television series "Charm" before gaining wider recognition with the series "Cut Me Down," a medical drama in which he played the role of plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy.
The series aired for six seasons from 2003 to 2010 and earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
McMahon also played Doctor Doom in two "Fantastic Four" films in 2005 and 2007, and later appeared in three seasons of "FBI: Most Wanted."
Dick Wolf, producer of "FBI: Most Wanted," said McMahon's death was "shocking news."
McMahon is the son of a former Australian prime minister, and he also played the role of the Australian prime minister in the Netflix series "Residence" - one of his recent appearances.
McMahon has been married three times - first to Australian singer and actress Dannii Minogue, sister of singer Kylie Minogue.
