When it was announced that director Denis Villeneuve would take over the future of the 007 films and work on the 26th film in the franchise, many hoped that Austin Butler, the young actor with whom he collaborated on 2024's "Dune: Part Two," would be cast in the role of James Bond.
Butler has now addressed those suggestions, claiming that it is not the best role for him.
"I haven't received any calls yet, but I love the man. Would I play James Bond? I don't think it's a good idea. Because I'm American. I could take off my British accent, but I think that would be a desecration of religion," he told Hits Radio.
"Those films mean a lot to me, but I think it has to be played by someone from England," the actor explained, then revealed that he would rather play a villain than a hero.
"Villain? That would be great. That's what I would do," he replied.
Ever since Daniel Craig decided to step down from the role of James Bond, there has been public speculation about who could succeed him, and the media has been constantly speculating about who the new agent 007 could be, sometimes even linking actresses to him.
