Actor Cillian Murphy has decided to publicly address all those who speculate that he could find himself playing the main villain in the new adaptation of the "Harry Potter" series of novels by J.K. Rowling.
As he said, he will not play the evil wizard Voldemort in the series being filmed by HBO, whose first season is currently scheduled to premiere in 2027.
Fourteen years after the release of the final “Harry Potter” film, HBO is producing a series that will dedicate one season to each book in the series. So far, the main cast has been announced, including John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Papau Esiedu as Professor Severus Snape.
Young acting hopeful Dominic McLoughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will portray the character of Hermione Granger, while Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley.
However, one of the roles has not yet been revealed, and that is Lord Voldemort. This role has been played in the films, starting with 2005's "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," by Ralph Fiennes.
Since it was announced that the series would be filmed, many have linked the star of the film "Oppenheimer" with this role, and recently even Fiennes "gave his approval" thinking that Murphy could replace him.
However, in the podcast "Happy Sad Confuse", Murphy said that there is no truth to these speculations.
"No. My kids show me some of that news every now and then, but no. I don't know anything about it," the actor was explicit.
"I mean, on the other hand, it's also very difficult to follow anything Ralph Fiennes does. The man is an absolute acting legend. So - good luck to whoever finds themselves in his shoes," Murphy said.
Fans will be able to watch Murphy in the Netflix drama “Steve,” and he will also return to the world of “Peaky Blinders” in the spin-off “The Immortal Man,” which will premiere in late 2025 or early 2026.
