Concert film about Elvis Presley who directed Baz Luhrmann arrives in theaters next year, after premiering at the recent Toronto Film Festival on September 6th.
The film, titled "EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert," combines previously unseen footage of the singer known as the King performing in Las Vegas during the 60s and 70s, as well as footage shot for the documentaries "Elvis: That's the Way It Is" and "Elvis on Tour."
While working on a film about Elvis in 2022, Luhrmann discovered 68 boxes of recordings, and it was they who inspired him to make this project, namely to make a concert film.
After being shown in Toronto and at the Zurich Film Festival, this film will be shown in cinemas around the world, but the premiere date has not yet been revealed, and the only thing known is that it will be next year.
"From the first day my editor Jonathan Redmond and I discovered this rare and previously unseen footage of Elvis eight years ago, our mission has been to make Elvis's great dream come true and create his world tour," director Baz Luhrmann said in a statement.
“We have created an experience that is not just a documentary, nor is it just a concert film. It will be an epic experience. I am also very excited that our passion is shared by distributors Neon and Universal, who will ensure that this film is shown in all local cinemas in small towns, all the way to big screens in metropolises around the world. Personally, I can’t wait for this show to hit the road,” he added.
Luhrmann, who is known for his work on “Moulin Rouge” and “Romeo + Juliet,” hired in 2022 Austin Butler to bring Elvis to life in a musical about his life. The film was nominated for eight Oscars and received positive reviews from critics.
