The sequel to the box office hit Wicked has generated extremely high revenues on its first day of release in American theaters.
Film prati Elfabi (Cynthia Erivo) of the Gliding (Ariana Grande) as their paths diverge. Glinda, now a public figure, tries to navigate a complex political situation after Elphaba becomes the target of public demonization. The plot leads to a conflict that will significantly affect the City of Oz.
According to Deadline, Wicked 2 earned $68,6 million on Friday and during preview screenings at 4.115 locations across North America.
The film is projected to gross $151,5 million in its opening weekend in the United States, setting a new record for the highest opening for a Broadway adaptation, surpassing the first film, which debuted at $114 million. The previous record for a musical was held by Into the Woods with $31 million.
