Actress Emilia Clarke claims she is done with the fantasy genre after experiencing the fame brought to her by the series "Game of Thrones."
The British actress who played Daenerys Targaryen, the "Mother of Dragons", was hired for all seasons, spending time on set from 2011 to 2019, and her role was critical to the end of the series.
Almost seven years since the last episode of the series aired, Clarke claims that she has not changed her mind and is even firmer in her decision not to play a role in a similar project in the future.
In an interview with The New York Times, the actress said:
"It's highly unlikely that you'll see me riding a kite again, even if you do see me in the same frame with the kite, ever again."
The popular HBO series ended in 2019, just before the coronavirus pandemic when people were forced to stay in their homes, so the actress also reflected on that period in the interview, emphasizing that it was then that she reflected on everything that had happened in her career up to that point.
"It was the first time in my career that I stopped. I had a complete nervous breakdown. It was like the pandemic was timed to coincide with my need for a break," Clark admitted.
She adds that it was then that she "realized that she could try to fight for more autonomy" when it came to choices and work.
"So much in my career didn't match my taste. I only filmed out of necessity," the actress claims.
Those choices include Marvel's "Secret Invasion" and the new secret agent-themed series "Ponies," which begins streaming on the American streaming platform Peacock today.
In the same interview, Clarke also addressed the downside of the fame that the series "Game of Thrones" brought her.
"I lost the opportunity to meet someone for the first time. Because none of the people I met were relaxed and themselves. There was always this thing that would get in the way of our interaction," described Emilia Clarke.
