Everyone probably thinks it's easy to bring the character of Santa Claus to the screen - grow a beard, say "ho ho ho" and be nice to everyone. However, that's exactly why the role requires seriousness. Many actors have given legendary performances of Santa Claus, including Richard Attenborough, Ed asner, even if Billy Bob ThorntonBut an actor who wants to stand out among this crew has to put in the effort.
Kurt Russell did just that. In the 2018 film “The Christmas Chronicles,” he took on the role of Santa Claus, who encounters two mischievous children who accidentally cause his sleigh to fall. Instead of punishing them, he joins them in their search for presents before Christmas. Two years later, he returned to the North Pole for the sequel “The Christmas Chronicles 2,” where he went to great lengths to make the role even better.
Chris Columbus, the director of both films, was delighted with the way Kurt approached this task.
"Kurt takes this role extremely seriously. It may sound funny to some, but Kurt approaches Santa Claus like a method actor. He probably wrote 175 to 200 pages of the history of Santa Claus himself. He did it all himself. He's incredibly dedicated to the role," Columbus recalled.
Although critics are not enthusiastic about the sequel's story and consider it similar to the previous one, Russell and his wife's real-life performances Goldie Hon they received praise. The film was the most watched on Netflix in its week of release, with 61 million views in the first month, showing that all the effort was worth it.
Russell has never been the type for method acting or boasted about his work behind the camera, but the fact that he put so much dedication into portraying one of the most beloved characters shows what kind of person he is.
