Dustin Hoffman has had a wide variety of roles throughout his career, winning two Oscars and six Golden Globes. Unlike his colleagues like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, Hoffman did not accept every role that brought in money, but carefully chose projects in which he could give his best.
However, one of the franchises he has been involved in for almost twenty years - “Kung Fu Panda”, apparently was not as much fun for him as it was addictive for the audience. Hoffman has been the voice of the wise martial arts master, the red panda Master Shifu, since the first part in 2008, through all the sequels of the series. Although the engagement probably brought him a good income, the filming process itself did not please him.
Speaking to The Guardian, Hoffman admitted:
"I can't stand it. There were five years between the second and third parts, and then: 'Oh my God, they're making another one.'"
Filming was mostly in the cabin with the director, not together with the other actors, which was an extremely stressful experience for him.
"I felt like it was the first day of acting school, and it was that way for the next four months," Hoffman recalled.
The famous actor will have to go through the same process again due to the confirmed Kung Fu Panda 5, which is set to hit theaters sometime between 2027 and 2028.
Hoffman is still active. He is currently filming the Netflix film “Time Out with Adam Sandler” and has just finished filming “The Revisionist” with Alison Brie. He will soon be working on Andy Garcia’s project “Diamond.”
