Once the face of the magical school of Hogwarts, today he is an actor who chooses risk over safety. After eight "Harry Potter" films, Daniel Radcliffe has directed his career towards unusual, bold and often absurd projects - from films like "Horns", "Swiss Army Man" and "The Lost City", to the series "Miracle Workers", writes the Comic Book site in the introduction to the interview.
The conversation was held during the promotion of his latest project, "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins," a series that began airing on February 23rd.
The plot follows former NFL star Reggie Dinkins (Tracy Morgan), tarnished by a betting scandal, who tries to repair his image by filming a documentary. Radcliffe plays Arthur Tobin, an author who himself seeks redemption after a public outburst on the set of a Marvel film.
The actor himself describes his comedic taste as "weird".
"I like humor that can jump between very clever and completely stupid – but I mean 'stupid' as a compliment," he says, noting that the classic "Airplane!" is his benchmark for perfect comedy.
No nThe biggest lesson, he says, he learned on stage, playing in the musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
"Nothing teaches you timing like a live audience. You have the same line 300 times and every night you're looking for a new nuance," he explains, referring to working with Tracy Morgan, which he describes as a privilege.
""He has a way of delivering lines that 99 percent of actors couldn't do. And that's why you have to play the 'real man' next to him - someone has to ground the chaos," Radcliffe describes.
The series, the actor says, carries the recognizable rhythm of the "30 Rock" creators.
"If you don't like one joke, another one comes in three seconds," he reveals.
Radcliffe also looks back on the role that marked him - Harry Potter, and says that he consciously chose projects that tested him.
"I was lucky to have 'done' a big franchise early on. It gave me the financial freedom to choose what scares and excites me," says the actor, who also comments on the announced HBO TV adaptation of the aforementioned films.
As he revealed, he asked the producers of this series to let him know the name of the successor, the new Harry, when they choose him, so that he could send him a message of support.
"It'll be nice for someone else to take over the answers to the Harry Potter questions. In a few years, I'll be passing them on," Radcliffe joked.
