The character of Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, has always been difficult to categorize. She's a strict and demanding boss, but there's something deeper behind that behavior. Namely, she's not just "bad" or "difficult," but she also has her own side of the story, emotions, and reasons for behaving the way she does.
Speaking to the "Hits Radio Breakfast Show," Meryl Streep said she likes that the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada 2" further explores her character.
"I think we get a more realistic portrayal here. We often 'Marvelize' movies these days, so we have villains and good guys. It's so boring. What's really interesting about life is that some heroes are imperfect, and some villains are human and interesting, with qualities. I like that about this movie because it's more complex," Streep said.
The new sequel revisits the complicated relationship between Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) and the powerful editor of Runway magazine. While Miranda faces industry pressure and public criticism, Andy tries to regain her approval while remaining committed to serious journalism.
The film returns Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Tracy Thomas and Tibor Feldman, while the cast is joined by Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Bramall, Conrad Ricamorra and Lady Gaga.
Although some reviews were lukewarm, the film was well received by audiences and achieved box office success.
