John Lennon's son, Sean Lennon, believes his father would accept the use of artificial intelligence.

Director Steven Soderbergh collaborated with the late musician's heirs on the documentary "John Lennon: The Last Interview," which features an interview with the legendary Beatles member and his wife Yoko Ono, recorded just hours before he was murdered in 1980. Although he mostly used archival footage, some of the public reacted negatively when it was revealed that artificial intelligence was used in the film.

Soderbergh explained that the technology was used solely for the purpose of "thematic surrealism," not an attempt to "bring Lennon back to life." He emphasized that he did so with the consent of his son, Sean Lennon, who believes his father would be very interested in AI.

"I asked Sean what he thought his father would think of this technology, and he said, 'He'd definitely want to get involved.' He loved all new technology, and so did all the Beatles. He'd want to play with it and see what it could do," the director said.

He added that he understands the audience's initial reactions, as many immediately think of the misuse of technology.

"There is a way to use AI to deceive or manipulate someone, but the way we use it is clearly a technology, similar to when using visual effects or CGI," he explained.

Soderbergh believes that audiences will understand his approach after watching the film.

"My moral obligation was to make the best version of the film, both towards Sean, towards Yoko, and towards the audience," he said.
