Kit Harington has defended the controversial final season of "Game of Thrones," saying he still feels "very protective" of it seven years after it ended.
The adaptation of George RR Martin's books became a global phenomenon during its run from 2011 to 2019, captivating audiences with the intrigue and political games in Westeros, as well as the fight for the Iron Throne.
However, the eighth season was a huge disappointment for many fans. Among the main complaints were the fast pace of the plot and the unclear motivations of the characters. The end of the series somewhat damaged its legacy, but Harington, who played the audience favorite character Jon Snow for all eight seasons, decided to defend it.
During a panel discussion at Motor City Comic Con in Michigan, the actor spoke openly about his feelings toward the series finale.
"That story about season eight, people, still makes me feel very protective," he said.
"The reason for that is that you were watching it all from the outside, while I was inside. I knew how much care, love, work and life went into creating it, as well as the conversations that were had and the discussions around the table about which way to go and what to do," the actor added.
"It's not a small process. It's an incredibly complex, long and detailed process. And I feel like the best people for that were the ones who gave us the first seven seasons, the ones who brought this story to television and brought George's vision to life," Harington continued, adding that there may have been mistakes.
"We can all decide whether we liked it or not, what we liked and what we didn't," he admitted.
"I have no doubt that they did what they thought was right, because they are the very people who brought us all this. And I stand behind that. I feel a great need to defend the show and that season. And I think that's how it always will be," Harington emphasized.
