Robert Downey Jr. and his producer wife, Susan Downey, have given the audience a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes - whether there will be another film in which the actor will portray the famous fictional detective.
When asked by reporters whether there would be another part of this film with him in the lead role, Downey Jr. replied at the spring gala dinner at Lincoln Center:
"I don't know. People talk about it, but she's a producer," he added, pointing to his wife.
Emmy Award winner Susan has produced dozens of Hollywood series and films, including some starring her husband, Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr.
The couple has been married since August 2005 and together they have two sons and a daughter.
When it comes to new film adaptations of the famous detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle, Susan will, according to Robert, "have the last word."
With raised eyebrows towards the camera, he said:
"She decides in the end."
His wife, Susan, cryptically added that it was "the biggest mystery."
Guy Ritchie directed both Sherlock Holmes films, while Joe Lowe played Watson, the famous detective's faithful partner.
The successful film franchise also featured Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Jared Harris...
Back in 2016, media outlets reported that Warner Bros. was developing a third film. After it was announced in 2019 that the premiere had been postponed to 2021, "Sherlock Holmes 3" simply disappeared from the studio's plans.
