"The Office" star Rainn Wilson told Fox News Digital that the beloved NBC comedy series probably couldn't be made in today's cultural climate.

"I really don't think you could make 'The Office' today. It would be too hard to be as politically incorrect as the show was. And I kind of miss that," he said, adding that there was a lot of "really inappropriate" humor in the show, especially when it comes to his character Dwight and the main character Michael, played by Steve Carell.

Wilson believes that, although Michael and Dwight are portrayed as individuals without any "self-awareness," their antics would not be acceptable in 2026.

"We got a lot of great, really inappropriate scenes out of it. But even with the fact that the character is portrayed as a complete idiot, I don't think it would pass muster today," the actor concluded.

Wilson played Dwight for all nine seasons of “The Office,” which aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013 and had a total of 201 episodes.

Despite his comments, “The Office” was recently given a sequel in the form of the series “The Paper,” which premiered on Peacock in September 2025.

This isn't the first time Wilson has talked about how "The Office" pushed the boundaries of humor. In a September 2025 appearance on The Last Laugh podcast, he said that the show can seem "shockingly offensive" today and that if it were filmed today, it would look "very, very different."
