Kristin Davis only realized years later why "Sex and the City" was a phenomenon

Kristin Davis recalled how she initially found it difficult to understand the overwhelming audience reaction to the series "Sex and the City."

In a new episode of the "Dinner's On Me" podcast, the actress (61) talked about how her view of the iconic series changed after rewatching it years later.

When she first watched the episodes, Davis says she knew the series was good, but she didn't understand why it caused such euphoria among viewers.

"I remember thinking it was good, but at the same time, this may sound bad, when that craze came out, sometimes I just thought, 'What are they so excited about?' It was kind of overwhelming, in the sense that you just think, 'What is this going on?'" she admitted.

The series "Sex and the City" premiered on HBO in 1998, and starred Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon. The series later got two movies, as well as the sequel "And Just Like That...".

Rewatching the series also changed Davis's attitude towards the project, as it was only later that she realized how brave she had been and how much she had pushed the boundaries.

"Now, when I watch it again, I can be more objective and approach it almost as a fan. Not completely, but I can enjoy the stories and everything it brings. And it's really great," she said.

"I don't know if I really understood then... I don't know if I was aware of how different she was," she added.

Davis played Charlotte York, the romantic and optimistic member of the four main characters, throughout the series' six seasons, 94 episodes, two films, and the sequel.
