The genre that bypassed Jodie Foster

For some actors, certain genres simply seem out of reach. While some stars are willing to take on almost any challenge, whether it's a dark thriller or a light comedy, others prefer to stay within the confines of the films they're best known for.

Some, however, don't get the opportunities they would like. That's exactly what happened to Jodie Foster, who, despite a successful career spanning decades, has had a hard time finding offers for a particular type of film since childhood.

She first appeared in front of the camera when she was just three years old, in a commercial, after which she became a child star. She soon signed a contract with Disney and became one of their most recognizable faces. However, roles in more serious films, such as “Taxi Driver,” in which she played a child prostitute at just 12 years old, showed that she was capable of much more complex roles.

Although as a Disney star she was known for comedies and lighter works, Foster soon demonstrated a versatility that solidified her among the best actresses of her generation.

Throughout her career, she has tried her hand at a variety of genres, from thrillers and horror, such as her Oscar-winning role in The Silence of the Lambs, to dramas, comedies, science fiction, and adventure films. However, Foster has never appeared in a romantic film during her career, although she would love to have such an opportunity.

"I like thrillers. But I would also like to act in a romantic comedy, but there are no offers," Foster told the German newspaper "Morgenpost".

The actress, however, is realistic about the situation and is aware that she is probably not the first person that comes to mind when people imagine the main character of a romantic comedy.

"Honestly, I don't think I come across as a particularly romantic person," she added.

Considering that Foster has also been involved in directing over the years - she made her directorial debut in 1991 with the film "Little Man Tate", there is no reason why she shouldn't launch a romantic comedy project herself, in which she would also star.

Foster, who has spoken publicly about her homosexuality, could also offer something that this genre often lacks - a romantic comedy with a love story between two women.

For now, however, she is dedicated to other projects, such as her first French-language film, the thriller "Vie privée".
