Stuart will continue his unsuccessful attempt to save the universe, as HBO Max has renewed the spin-off series "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe," based on the popular series "The Big Bang Theory," for a second season.
The first season is created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. According to the platform, the series achieved the second-largest global debut for a comedy series in HBO Max history. The first place is still held by the sequel to the cult series "Sex and the City" - "And Just Like That...".
The renewal comes after just four episodes of the first season, which aired once a week. The series is available on HBO Max, alongside the original series “The Big Bang Theory.”
"We're thrilled with how this hilarious, genre-bending series has found its way to audiences - both among fans of 'The Big Bang Theory' and new viewers," said Amy Gravit, HBO's executive vice president of comedy.
"Like everyone else, we can't wait to see what kind of worlds they create for these beloved characters in the upcoming season," she added.
The series is conceived as a science fiction version of "The Big Bang Theory", filmed with a single camera, and starring four actors from the original series.
The plot follows Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), a comic book store owner, who is tasked with fixing reality after he malfunctions a device built by Sheldon and Leonard. His mistake accidentally triggers the apocalypse of the multiverse.
In his quest to save the world, Stuart is aided by his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist Bert (Brian Posen), and quantum physicist Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie). Along the way, they encounter alternate versions of characters that audiences know and love from "The Big Bang Theory." As the title suggests, things don't go so well.
Among the stars of the original series who have appeared in alternate versions of their characters so far are Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar and Mayim Bialik.
