The day before tomorrow marked five decades since the movie "Feather Gatherers"

Five decades have passed since the release of the cult Yugoslav film "Feather Collectors". The Montenegrin Cinematheque, in cooperation with the Roma Council of Montenegro and the "Radosav Ljumović" National Library, will mark this jubilee with a screening of one of the most significant achievements in the film history of these areas, which will take place on Thursday, April 20 at 20 pm in the Library's Oblique Hall.

Before the screening, directors Miloš Radivojević and Branko Baletić will provide a brief overview of the significance of this film.

"Feather Gatherers" was filmed in 1967, and in this production, for the first time, the life of the Roma in the north of Vojvodina and their position in the society of that time was faithfully presented. The tireless search for happiness and a constant active attitude towards life is the hallmark of a mentality that this film reveals in its poetics and cruelty.

The cast consists of some of the biggest stars of Yugoslav cinema: Bekim Fehmija, Velimir Bata Živojinović, Olivera Vučo, Gordana Jovanović and Mija Aleksić.

The film was awarded the Grand Golden Arena at the 14th Pula Film Festival, the Special Grand Jury Prize at the 20th Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1968. The director of the film is Aleksandar Saša Petrović, one from the originator of the Yugoslav new, "black" wave in cinematography.
