Captain Marvel 2 has officially been declared the least profitable film in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie they're starring in Brie Larson, Howl Ashton i Tajona Paris, the predictions did not go well, and it was expected that it would not do well at the box office.
A bigger budget was invested in this achievement than Captain Marvel brought in money. Namely, the budget of the film was 220 million dollars, and the earnings were only 197 million dollars, which makes it different from other Marvel films like "Avengers: Endgame", which earned over 2,5 billion dollars in the world only during the first weekend of screening.
“Captain Marvel,” which opened in theaters on Nov. 10, had the worst opening weekend in MCU history, with just $46 million in ticket sales. Grossing just $80 million in North America, the film is the first in the studio's history to fail to reach the $100 million mark domestically.
According to CNBC, Disney CEO, Bob Iger, recently addressed the challenges facing the film, saying he explained that Captain Marvel was filmed during the pandemic.
"There wasn't as much on-set oversight as there usually is, where the executives are really overseeing what's going on day-to-day," he explained.
Speaking about the history of achieving record results of Marvel Studios, he pointed out that they have reached a point where they would be disappointed if the film did not earn a billion dollars worldwide.
"That's an incredibly high standard, and I think we need to get more realistic," he noted.
"Captain Marvel," which received a three-star review from NME, didn't fare well with critics either.
