Hollywood actor Sean Penn said today that with his interview with drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, he wanted to start a debate about the American war on drugs, but that did not happen and that is why he considers it a failed mission.
"Let me be clear. My article failed," Penn stressed.
Penn said his goal was to "shed light" on America's role in the international drug trade.
"We are consumers. Whether you agree with Sean Penn or not, it is complicity," said the actor in an interview that will be broadcast in its entirety on CBS on Sunday in the "60 Minutes" program.
Penn stated that he was sorry that the essence of the text was ignored in the entire debate, the agencies reported.
The Hollywood actor rejected allegations that his meeting with El Chapo was crucial to the arrest of the drug lord, as the Mexican prosecutor pointed out, stating that they met weeks earlier, on October 2 to be exact.
