A Porsche painted in psychedelic colors, which belonged to the legendary American singer Janis Joplin, will be offered at auction on December 10 in New York.
The auction house Sotheby's, which is the organizer of the auction, announced that it is a Porsche 356C 1600 convertible whose price is estimated at over 400.000 dollars.
Although she sang "God, buy me a Mercedes-Benz", in 1968 Joplin bought herself another German luxury car - a Porsche. Finding the white color of the car too "boring", she had a friend paint a colorful image of herself with her band members, along with images of butterflies and jellyfish, over the entire body.
"Joplin's 356C is without a doubt one of the most famous Porsches of all time. It is a fantastic car that transcends art, pop culture and social movements, in every way a car worthy of the famous singer," notes Sotheby's, reports AFP.
Joplin always drove around in a Porsche that was usually parked in front of the Hollywood hotel where she died in 1970 of a heroin overdose.
After her death, the car belonged to her family, who loaned it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where it has been on display since 1995, and who have now decided to put it up for sale.
