The animal world of Piva Mountains

After yesterday's field trip, new photos of wild animals captured by camera traps in the Piva Mountains region were collected.

"The Piva region has been recognized through scientific literature as an area rich in animal life. For the first time, we have the opportunity to enjoy photographs of the wild animals of this region," the website states. Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP).

CZIP, as part of the project Balkan Lynx Recovery Program III, in cooperation with JP "National Parks of Montenegro", continues with the monitoring of wild animals in Montenegro, using the methodology of camera traps. In the course of several years of research in the Mavrovo and Munella Mountains National Park in Albania, the presence of the Balkan lynx was confirmed with the help of camera traps.

Also, biologists from the NGO "ERA" Kosovo, during this winter, recorded the presence of this recluse in the Rugovska Gorge. In Montenegro, so far, almost all forest species have been recorded, except for the lynx. Finding evidence of its presence, as stated by CZIP, requires time, experience and patience. This program also envisages expanding protected areas, improving wildlife management and supporting these activities through continued research and monitoring.

The program is implemented with the financial support of the Swiss foundation MAVA and the German foundation for the protection of natural heritage EuroNatur.
