French actress and activist Brigitte Bardot has once again raised her voice to defend her animal friends.
This time, the famous "BB" asked the European Union to ban the "barbaric practice" of fattening geese and ducks for the production of liver pate.
In an open letter to Vitenis Andrijukajtis, the European Commissioner for Health, Bardo states that he wants to join the initiative of the Danish Minister of Agriculture, Dan Jorgensen, who requested the commissioner to introduce such a ban.
"Many member countries (most) have already taken the first steps in this direction, so it would be logical to harmonize the laws by banning this cruel practice, unworthy of European standards," the former wife of Rože Vadim and Serge Gainsbourg stated in her letter .
"My country, France, is the first producer in the world of that horror called goose pate. Painful, mechanical fattening methods cause great suffering to millions of geese and ducks, locked in individual cages, banned since January 2011 everywhere in Europe, except in France where the law is not respected!", she stressed.
The Brigitte Bardot Foundation also recently mobilized against the plucking of feathers from live geese and ducks for the production of down jackets.
A recent survey by the Opinionway agency showed that 47 percent of the French support the ban on fattening geese and ducks, but also that 95 percent of them believe that the table is not festive if there is no goose pate on it.
