Commemorative coins with the image of Russian President Vladimir Putin are being produced in a Russian factory, apparently to mark the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
On one side of the one-kilogram coin is Putin's image, and on the other side is a map of the Crimean peninsula, the Moscow daily "Komsomolskaya Pravda" reported.
The director of the factory, Vladimir Vasyuhin, explains that by returning Crimea "home", Putin "demonstrated the qualities of a wise strategist and politician".
The limited edition of 500 silver coins is named "The Unifier of the Russian Lands" - a name traditionally associated with Ivan III - or Ivan the Great - who significantly expanded the territory of Russia during his reign.
The price of the coins has not yet been determined - some of them will be sold, although they will not be used as a means of payment - and the factory has announced that it plans to gift some of them to the Russian leadership.
To add to the irony, this is not the first time that Putin's image has appeared on a coin - in 2006, Ukraine issued a coin with the image of the Russian president, thus marking 10 years of the national currency, the hryvnia. Precious stones were also stamped on it, and it is worth around 360 euros.
