As the diplomatic crisis between Ukraine and Russia continues, Ukrainian women have decided to boycott sex with Russians.
A campaign was launched on Facebook last week "Don't give it to the Russians", calling on the "female heroes" of Ukraine to "fight the enemy with all means." In this case, by denying the Russians sex.
The campaign was named after a line from the song "Katerina" by the Ukrainian national hero Taras Shevchenko: "Fall in love, you dark-eyed girls, just not with Russians."
"We used this campaign to draw attention to the chaos the Russians are wreaking in Crimea; kidnappings, restricting people's rights, preventing journalists from doing their job... And, yes, Ukrainian women prefer Ukrainian men," Katerina Venzhik, one of the organizers of the campaign and editor-in-chief of the Delo.UA portal, told the British newspaper "The Independent".
The "Don't give to the Russians" campaign fit nicely into the general Ukrainian boycott directed against all Russian products.
The logo of the campaign is represented by two clasped hands, the shape of which resembles a vagina.
The campaign has been met with skepticism in Russia, where bloggers have ridiculed it.
Yegor Prosvirnjin, editor-in-chief of the Russian nationalist website Sputnik and Pogrom, described the boycott participants as prostitutes.
