The imposing mayor of Lausanne, Danijel Brelaz, who is 1,90 centimeters tall and weighs 172 kilograms, started a diet with acupuncture last year and now weighs 106 kilograms with the hope that he will weigh less than 100 kilograms, the Swiss media write today.
Brelaz (64), who was nicknamed the "Green Giant" as a member of the Green Party, did not go on a diet because of his appearance, which he always jokingly says is "giant", but because of his health.
Doctors diagnosed him with diabetes, dental problems and constant back pain, which forced him to diet with acupuncture and a drastic reduction in his meals.
Although his diet is nothing special, the media in Switzerland closely monitor his body weight, because the mayor is popular with the people, as he is always relaxed and likes to joke about himself.
Brelaz said that his goal is to weigh 85 kilograms and that for that he does not need to be in the hospital and stop working. "I have a steel will and I resist snacks like my favorite peanuts, and thanks to acupuncture, I'm not hungry. Citizens stop me on the street to support me," said the beloved mayor.
Brelaz's wife Marie-Ange also had problems with her weight. In 2008, she had to have a bypass implanted, which caused her to lose 60 kilograms. Now she weighs 80 kilos and is 1,75 centimeters tall.
