We know them from the stage or the small screen. As singers, TV personalities, musicians... In short, we know them as public figures. For some of our interlocutors, public work is a hobby, for some it is the greatest love, but rarely the main source of existence. For something like that, many celebrities have a job that they do every day, when the amplifiers, camera lights and scenes are turned off.
Dino Kapetanović, frontman of "Autogenic training", would like to devote all his time to music. However, this is not possible. Along with guitar lessons, Dino also works as a hotel receptionist.
“It's not the only job I've done. There were a lot of them, but somehow this dragged on. I was an interviewer for beer, juices, mobile phones... Well, there were a lot of jobs there," Kapetanović tells "Vijesti nedjeljom".
Unlike him, for Renata Perazić, one of the best female vocalists in Montenegro, music is just a hobby. She says she has always wanted to do just one job. That's exactly what he does - he teaches at the music school in Bar.
"Yes, that's right, because I've always wanted such a job, working in a school is my main occupation. I teach solfeggio and somehow I loved it since I was a child. I love when I can pass on my knowledge to children, I love children and working and spending time with them. Solfeggio is a theoretical subject and my students don't really like it, so the real challenge is to present it all to them in an interesting way", said Renata Perazić.
Music, she reveals, relieves her in the sea of obligations she has as a lecturer.
"And music is... Second love! (laughs). It's relaxation, I have no limits. In classical music, however, there are guidelines, brakes, rules. This is not the case with singing, so they are two completely different worlds, although they are closely related," Perazićeva said.
When he's on stage, you can definitely expect the Nikšić band "Society of Hidden Talents" to be there. But, when a substation, wire or flagpole burns, they are there again - or at least only a part of them. Singer Boris Lješković. For many years he has been working in Elektrodistribucija as a fitter. He also recorded the same length of service in the music world.
"My job is very dangerous, in many cases I work under voltage, I often climb poles... I was burned several times, luckily, there were no serious injuries. If something breaks down, if the electricity goes out, we are there," says Lješković and describes the second, more unpleasant part of the job.
"Uh, it's looking for illegal actions, theft of electricity, which we can't call theft. There were various situations, people were waiting for us to beat us. I also had the opportunity to testify in court about someone's illegal actions, and that was very unpleasant for me. You talk about what you found, and all the time you know that you can send someone to prison. People say: 'There's that singer!', and I have to snoop around their house, looking for sockets and illegal connections. It makes me very uncomfortable", admits the singer of DST.
At work, parties also recognized Vesko Ninković Džaja, currently the author of the show "Dinner with Džaja" on Atlas television. Recognition situations happened while he worked for a short time as an intern at the Environmental Protection Agency.
“I worked there for a while as an intern, having graduated in the late 40s. It was a very nice experience and such situations happened. Now, however, I work as a choreographer and supervisor at fashion events. My task is to bring people to the stage according to protocol and program. It is a very important and responsible job, because as a model, I know very well how important it is to have order backstage", says the popular Džaja, one of the leading Montenegrin models for a long time.
"I only work as a model sometimes, but it is clear to me that there is no more emotion there. That's why I avoid it and choose to design choreography, because it involves working with young people", says Ninković.
Due to work, we are often forced to miss some important things. And how does a musician cope with a double schedule? This is what Dino Kapetanović is talking about.
"I could say that he is suffering, if I take into account that once I may have missed an important rehearsal because I had to work a shift at the hotel. But, in principle, it rarely happened, so I still consider that I did not lose, as far as the music is concerned. Also, I work with people with whom I can always and easily agree to replace me if we go on tour or have a gig. So I'm always available for music", explained the front man of "Autogenic Training".
On the other hand, Lješković (DST) is not so lucky.
"Many times I missed gigs because of my work in the company. It is especially difficult when we get invitations to play in Slovenia, Macedonia. The road to get there is long, it takes us several days to go and come back. I can't be away that long, and we're certainly not a band that travels by plane," complained the singer and electrical engineer.
Singer Sanja Živković is the owner of the "Dream" dance school. He points out that he goes to work every day with great pleasure, knowing that he will be working with children and teenagers who are eager for knowledge.
"My work, dance, is my great love, and physical activity is an integral part of my life, so I combined the beautiful and the useful. In addition to dance techniques, each class includes warm-up, stretching and work on choreography, which is a particularly creative process. I simply enjoy putting together ideas, music, dance steps, costumes and stage props," boasted Živković.
If she had to choose between two jobs - singing and dancing, she would choose the latter.
"I can't say which I prefer, but let's say I've been dancing all my life, and singing for eight or nine years. It's hard to define because I always dance when I sing, not because I want to, simply, the music carries me. Whenever I can complement each other, I do so and I am very happy that I am able to do so", reveals Sanja Živković.
When you have to...
Dino Kapetanović failed to praise his work. Although he tried. "Of course I would prefer to always do music and only music, but that is not possible at the moment. Working at the reception is not difficult for me, so in that sense I can say that I love it. But, if I could live from music, I would never do it", admits the singer of "Autogenic training".
When asked if he likes his job at Elektrodistribucija, Lješković answers with a question and a laugh. "And who loves him?! But what will I do when I have to. I feel sorry for the guys in the group who, due to my inability to be away, also miss some things. Somehow I combine, so I work at the company on weekends, so that I can sing with the group on weekdays. I don't like this job at all, that's for sure", complained Boris Lješković.
Children are an ornament... of work
Working with young people is a great satisfaction, both for Renata Perazić and for Vesko Ninković and Sanja Živković.
"What really fulfills me is the choreography of events, working with young people. When they see me, they don't expect strictness, they think I'll give in, because I'm a TV personality and I'm always smiling on TV. But when we practice the choreography, I'm relentless. I try to get the best out of each of them, because not everyone can do everything. You need to match the steps with their personalities and give them what suits them. In this sense, those girls, and more often the boys, adore me and I always fondly remember working with them. I like that as much as working on television," Jaja boasted.
Sanja Živković showed her choreographic and dancing abilities with her young groups in 2010 and 2011. "In those years, I worked with children on the musical 'Gradimo zajedno' and the dance show, the musical 'Chicago'." We work on one choreography for two to three months so that in the end it all turns out well-rehearsed, safe and technically sound. Team work is very important in every group, and the pedagogical approach, especially with the younger age group, is something the school is known for. Those children and teenagers are eager for knowledge, and for me it is valuable when I see that I am a role model for a girl or a girl. This is something that makes me happy to no end. Those former children are now girls who teach classes themselves. It's really more than dancing, something really special," says Sanja.
