In Jukasjaervi, a small village in Swedish Lapland, in the very north of the country, about 20 workers are building a hotel from ice blocks that will melt in the spring.

Workers are stacking large blocks of ice like Lego blocks, so that a hotel with 60 rooms will soon be completed in Jukasjaervij.

The architects envisioned a giant igloo with arcades, several ice domes, a bar and several halls, and even a chapel where marriages and baptisms will take place in a few days.

"Icehotel" should open its doors to its first guests on December 7, reports "Romandy".

"This is a race against time and a battle with the weather. We are completely dependent on the weather, there are deadlines we have to meet, but the weather doesn't go our way every year," said Beatrice Carlson, who oversees the hotel's construction.

After the major works, she explained, furniture should be installed - also ice, a large bar, sculptures, lighting, carving decorations in ice.

The amount of around 580.000 euros is intended only for decorations in the hotel. In six apartments, artists will create works of art in ice.

Guests will sleep on beds covered in fox fur in fur sleeping bags. When leaving the hotel, all guests will receive a confirmation that they spent the night at minus seven degrees.

The temperatures outside are much lower, sometimes minus 40 degrees, but inside the hotel it is "much warmer" and the lowest temperature is minus 8.

A night at the hotel is between 255 and 810 euros.
